Having just returned from a 3 hour excursion on the crystal-clear waters of the river in Trang An, the feeling of utter relaxation and awe before the beauty of this Halong Bay on Land remains fresh within me. Today, the weather in Ninh Binh was exceptionally pleasantcool with a gentle breeze making this journey to explore the World Heritage Site more perfect than ever.

If you are still hesitant about planning a trip here, here are 5 reasons why Trang An is a destination you absolutely must visit at least once in your life, based on my own wonderful experience on Route 3 today.

1. The Most Peaceful "Escape" Journey in Vietnam

Trang An is not for those in a rush. Here, the only way to explore is by sitting in small rowboats hand-paddled by local people. Today, amidst the cool weather, I spent a full 3 hours drifting lazily on the water. No engine noise, no dust—only the sound of oars splashing the water and birdsong echoing from the limestone cliffs. It is the most effective soul-healing remedy I have ever experienced.

2. Magnificent Million-Year-Old Limestone Cave System

I decided to choose Route 3, and it was the right decision. This route is famous for its stunningly beautiful limestone caves. The boat slowly enters the heart of the mountain, and the atmosphere suddenly becomes chilly. Under the dim light reflecting from the water, million year old stalactites and stalagmites appear in various strange shapes, glistening like crystal blocks. The feeling of going through this "outdoor geological museum" is truly a surreal experience.

3. Sacred Spiritual and Cultural Space Amidst the Heritage

Not just about nature, Trang An is also a repository of long-standing historical and cultural values. On Route 3, I stopped to visit ancient temples nestled humbly yet solemnly at the foot of massive mountains. The combination of traditional temple architecture and the majestic mountain landscape evokes a feeling that is very sacred, peaceful, and full of pride.

4. Meeting Adorable Wild "Residents"

The wilderness of Trang An is proven by its rich flora and fauna. As the boat glided through the water valley, I was delighted to see several teal (wild ducks) swimming right past the boat. They were swimming playfully, calmly preening their feathers, and seemed quite accustomed to human presence. That simple moment made me feel that humans and nature are truly one.

5. The Wonderful Combination of Modernity and Tradition

This was the perfect end to my trip. After 3 hours of boating amidst mountains and rivers, I returned to the pier and stopped at the Highlands Coffee shop right within the tourist area. Sitting there, drinking my favorite coffee, and gazing at the panoramic view of majestic Trang An in the late afternoon was a super "chill" experience. The feeling of enjoying a modern, high-class service right in the middle of a traditional World Heritage Site is very interesting and convenient.

Insider Tip: The Best Time to Visit Trang An

Trang An possesses a different beauty in each season, but for the most convenient and fulfilling trip like my experience today, you should keep the following timeframes in mind:

Spring (Lunar January to March): Very suitable for spring travel combined with Buddhist ceremonies at Bai Dinh Pagoda and sightseeing in Trang An.

Autumn (September to November): Considered the "golden time." The climate is cool, dry, and the sky is clear, very similar to the refreshing weather I was lucky to encounter today.

Golden Rice Season (Late May - Early June): To see Trang An glowing in brilliant gold. However, the weather will be quite hot.

💡 Essential Practical Information for Your Trip

To ensure your trip goes smoothly and is full of emotion like mine today, pack these practical tips into your travel bag:

  • Admission Fees: Currently, the all-inclusive ticket price (including entrance fee and boat fee) is 300,000 VND/person. This is the publicly listed price at the ticket counter and applies to all 3 boat routes.
  • Tipping Culture for Boat Rowers: After a rigorous 3-hour journey involving hard manual paddling by the rowers, many tourists usually send a tip to the rower of about 50,000 VND/person as a thank you for their enthusiasm and attentiveness. However, please note that this is optional and completely non-mandatory, depending entirely on your satisfaction and generosity.

Having just returned from a 3-hour excursion on the crystal-clear waters of the river in Trang An, the feeling of utter relaxation and awe before the beauty of this "Halong Bay on Land" remains fresh within me. Today, the weather in Ninh Binh was exceptionally pleasant—cool with a gentle breeze—making this journey to explore the World Heritage Site more perfect than ever.

I would never be able to accomplish, as I always assumed my physical stamina had its limits. Even though I’ve supported room bookings and provided travel information for many clients on their cross-Vietnam trips for years, this was the first time I actually tried driving such a long route myself.
